New Replacement Hinge Spring for Arms in Metal Cases

Coiled tension spring for replacing hinge spring on cigarette case or metal wallet that has worn out with repeated use. Springs hold arms down inside cases to keep contents from spilling. See instructions below on how to replace a broken spring coil on a hinged cigarette case or hard metal wallet. New spring coils come in two lengths in silver tone or gold tone finishes:

• Small spring is 3/16" and has about 7-8 coils. (Not currently available.)
• Large spring is 1/4" and has about 10-11 coils.

Instructions for Replacing Broken Arm Springs on Metal Case Hinge

Over time, the springs in metal cases will fail depending upon the amount of use. Typically, the spring arms in metal cases are held down with a tiny coiled spring on the hinge that can snap after repeated flexing depending upon the amount of use over time. Follow these simple directions to replace a hinge spring that broke on a metal case or box such as those used for cigarettes, credit cards, etc.

1. Open up the case. Partially unbend a paper clip and use the end to insert into one end of the hinge slot to help partially push the hinge pin out, then grasp pin with fingers or a pair of pliers to pull out just to the point of the center of the spring. Do not pull all the way out.
2. Remove the broken spring. While applying downward pressure, force the new spring over the hinge pin. Make sure that there is now tension on the spring arms holding them down. If not, the spring is upside down.
3. Push the hinge pin back into the other side of the hinge slot until fully inserted. It may be necessary to push end of pin against a hard surface to help push it fully into place.
