What's Kyle's Story Behind the Sheep Design?

"My father grew up on a sheep ranch in Northern California, and when he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to take a teaching job, he bought a house partly because the lot next to it had sheep. So when I was very young, there were sheep poking their heads into my backyard. (The charm of the setting was destroyed when the neighbors sold out and the lot was paved over with a huge condominium complex.) Still harboring a soft spot in my heart for sheep, I became interested in spinning and weaving as a teenager. I went up to my grandfather's ranch and got a huge bag of wool from sheep who escaped the previous year's shearing. To prepare the wool for dying, you must boil off the lanolin (so you can only image what our kitchen would smell like), but these extra long wool fibers were wonderful for spinning fine yarns by hand on my traditional Ashford spinning wheel. So for me, sheep are a symbol of a simpler, more traditional lifestyle."
